500ml champagne bottle

I love these bottles -

500ml is the perfect size.  The only question is do you "cork and cage" or "cork and cap" the top?  Lets take a poll.  Leave a comment and let me know if you prefer caps or cages.

Anyone with some Photoshop skills want to put a Funk Factory label on there?

Great blog! Keep up the good work. Is it just the photo or does this bottle have sort of anodized like looking finish to it?

Ah! I forgot to mention that aspect. It has an "Antique" finish.

No idea whether there is a better way to seal a bottle on a technical level. As far as presentation, I'd vote for "cork and cage".

Where did you get the 5 gallon barrel? And how much did it cost you?

I actually got the 5 gallon barrel from the same winery that I got the 60 gallon one. I got a pretty good deal, $50 for the 60 gallon and both the 5 gallons. The 5 gallon barrels were in pretty rough shape though.

Interesting. As to how to finish them, I'd go with a cork and cap as it's just one less thing to buy in terms of the cage. With that said, the presentation of cages is quite nice.

Did you buy these bottles locally or online somewhere?

I found it online. You have to order at least a pallet, which I believe was about 800 bottles. That's a lot of bottles, however, if you are brewing in wine barrels like I am, each barrel would fill ~400 of those bottles!

Should this first barrel go well, additional barrels will follow, so ordering 800 bottles will be necessary. At that point I might as well get some cool looking bottles. ;)

I know this is an old post but do you have a web address for the company that makes these bottles?

I don't, sorry. IIRC it was a Canadian company who had it in their catalog, and I think they were Italian bottles.
